One headline I came across recently and thought was awesome was for an article (https://thehockeywriters.com/top-10-greatest-stanley-cup-playoff-upsets-picks-1-5/) from thehockeywriters.com! The headline was:
“Top 5 Greatest Stanley Cup Playoff Upsets”
Although simple, this headline seemed to resonate with me as it was about an interest I have (hockey), and it was straight to the point while still including many of the factors discussed for a great headline. It includes a power word (greatest) that is used to grasp a user’s attention quickly, which it did very well with me. The headline also promised something specific to me as a hockey fan, the promise being a list of the best Stanley Cup playoff upsets of all time. This was a terrific way to reach the correct target market using language that the market would understand. Another factor it included was the use of a number (5), which is what specifically attracted me to the article. We spoke in class about how the use of numbers automatically makes a headline more attractive and useful. On top of all this, the headline perfectly showed off (or mirrored) what the article was about. This is great not only for users, but also for Search Engines as the information on the page matched the headline perfectly.
